10:41 pm - Sherlock vid rec: Friends
To counteract the anger-fueled post I just deleted, here's a happy vid about the best things I have going for me right now: friends, friends, friends!

02:21 pm - Sherlock fansite; Twitter question
For those who may have missed the announcement in several fandom comms, there is a new Sherlock fansite in town: The Baker Street Supper Club. Join us for updates on production, cast and crew's other works, and location and story info. Stay for the exciting forum discussions! (A read-along of the original canon is just starting, if that interests you.) We're also tweeting @bakerstsc.

To that end, does anyone know of a good Twitter client (or web app) that lets you manage multiple accounts? I have my own (work-related), the library's, and now am at least partially responsible for Supper Club's. I used an app briefly for managing just my own feed, but gave that up the first time it went wonky on me and haven't tried another. Mostly, I'm too busy for Twitter these days and haven't bothered, but now I'm too Twitter-busy to not have something. Needs to be Windows-friendly: I have Vista at home, XP at work, and am scouting for a netbook which I hope will have Win7.

1345 words

Rating: G

Spoilers: None

Warnings: Slight foodporn, oversimplification of hypoglycemic shock

Note: I really am sorry for how hungry you are about to be. Just know that I suffered through several days of pasta cravings writing this. Thanks to miladygrey for beta, and alabama_e for beta and the title.

08:28 pm - A gripe and a hello
After salad, garlic bread, pasta, and sangria, I am no closer to naming this fic. Please help, Fic Fairy! I need you! (This will make sense if y'all ever get to read said fic.)

Hi to all the people who have added me due to Sherlock fandom and related topics! I usually add people back, but I'm not so good at actually posting things very often. I've been away from LJ for a while doing other things and thinking thinky thoughts, so I guess it's time that a fandom sucked me back in. :) Nice to meet you and glad to be hanging out with you. And hi to all the old friends too. I do miss you when I'm off puttering around other parts of teh internets.

I'm going to go sacrifice a cup of tea to the fic-writing gods and see if that gets me anywhere.

03:52 pm - Help me, flist!
I am looking for two things that have been lost to the wilds of teh intarnets, and I know somebody out there knows how to find them.

First, there was a Mary Russell fandom post a while back (possibly as much as a couple years?) on how being with Russell actually proves that Holmes is gay. (Yes, it sounds silly, but was surprisingly well-argued until you got to the end, where I felt that it really fell apart.) I need this essay! All I really remember is that it was on LJ and one of you linked to it.

Second, the icons of the Doctor's Girls chibis. I stupidly did not grab any at the time, and now I know they are so buried in icon comms that I couldn't possibly dig them out. Any clues? I was dumb and not thinking ahead in the slightest.

ETA: Thanks to kerlin's excellent use of tags, I found the essay! It was posted on Geocities, but was picked up by Archive.org before that went dark. I give you The Russell paradox: The Mary Russell marriage as proof of Holmes's homosexuality? It is much longer than I remember, and you will need to highlight the entire page to read it, or even copy and paste it into a document: the font is light, so the original page probably had a dark background. This is going to take forever to get through, but maybe not so long to argue.

Rating: G+ for mild swears

Warnings: Not really, mild spoiler for “The Blind Banker”

09:53 pm - Recipe: Fried squash in the oven
You will need:
Beautiful yellow summer squash
Onion(s) to match
Cooking spray
Cornmeal
Oven @ 450F
Plastic container or disposable baggie
Baking sheet
Aluminum foil

Slice squash as you would to fry or stew, maybe a little thinner, and slice onions. Large-ish onion pieces are okay, but if the squash is cut thick it will take longer to cook, and you will have to suffer through the delay. As you slice them into your bowl/baggie, coat with cooking spray occasionally so that each layer that piles up has its own coating. Add cornmeal, close your container and shake, shake, shake! You may need to add more cornmeal and/or give it another spray or two to get everything coated well.

Cover baking sheet with foil and spray well. Place squash onto baking sheet, making sure there is only one layer. (This is important!) Bake for about 15 minutes, take out and turn all pieces over so they cook evenly, and bake about another 10 minutes. Check more often than this, though. A little nudge with a fork or toothpick will tell you if they are done yet.

If you are talented with a spatula, you can scoop-and-flip to turn them. This did not go well for me. You can also use a toothpick to turn each piece individually, which sounds tedious but actually doesn't take too long. You may want to spray all over the sheet again after you turn or partway through the second time around to help it get that nice brown color. The tips of your onion slices may start to look burned, but this is normal. I've never had the concoction as a whole taste burned or start smoking. ;)

And there you have it! Something not entirely unlike fried squash, but with much less grease and breading. Enjoy!

11:23 pm - Ice dance + musical theatre = win
OMG Davis and White as Erik and Christine! They were so awesome they silenced the commentators. And the ice skating commentators never shut up. That's gold, baby! Else I call shenanigans.

Ice dancing has never done anything for me before, but for some reason this year, I'm more into it than the pairs skating. Possibly because Charlie Davis is beautiful and adorable and they are both just plain awesome.

ETA: Oops, Virtue and Moir up next. Maybe I spoke too soon. They have stacks of awesome too.

12:21 pm - I turn my back for one minute and this happens
Wow. LJ has removed the ability to search interests from the navigation bar. WTF?!

[deleted rant about impossibility of searching another way]

I did find a workaround by searching entries, which yields nothing useful in itself, especially since most of the results are in Russian. However, that page gives you another search box with a tiny Search by interests option under it. I'm not sure why LJ has deliberately crippled their system. Surely one less option in the nav bar doesn't save them anything, but it does create more work for me and their servers when I have to do the same search twice to get what I want.

If all my friends weren't on LJ (including the ones who have DW accounts) I would be out of here. This is how I find new comms - search for something, see what comes up, join comm, get new fic, vids, etc. Without an interests search, none of that happens. Hopefully Dreamwidth will soon have more comms and good discussion so I can move my fannish activity over there.

On a completely different note, all this "here" and "there" is very difficult when I know this is going to be crossposted and read in both places. Ha!
